Meet the maker - Winckelmans
Founded in 1894 by Théophile Winckelmans in Northern France, this family-owned ceramics manufacturer has sustained traditional craftsmanship through five generations and over 130 years of operation.
While the industry modernised toward large-format, high-gloss tiles, Winckelmans deliberately chose a different path, remaining the only French factory committed to small, matte ceramic tiles with authentic traditional characteristics.
Their philosophy centres on creating "handmade unique pieces" where "every movement is deliberate and full of dedication," choosing quality hand production over automation. Each tile features through-body colours fired at 1,200 degrees Celsius for extraordinary durability and near-zero porosity.
With over 50 harmonious colours and thousands of heritage patterns, Winckelmans honours classical design motifs while serving contemporary projects worldwide.
